Dear Hope family,
Thought for the Week
God’s Tools
Psalm 23v4 “Your rod and your staff they comfort me.”
A rod and a staff were key tools for a shepherd looking after the sheep. The rod was used to protect sheep from a predator by knocking out the predator. The sheep did not have to defend itself because it could not. The shepherd does that job with his rod. David used a sling for the same purpose as he struck a lion and a bear. God has a pretty good rod and he is not afraid to use it. You can keep calm!
The staff was used for guiding and directing the sheep. He might give a prod or a gentle hook – but he is using it with care and only out of compassion. God has a strong desire to not only protect you but also guide you. This is comforting because my direction in life is not just up to me, God who knows all things and loves you dearly is guiding you.
May you know the guidance and protection of God today. It may seem like a bit of a prod, but respond to Him.
With love and blessing,
Roland
