Dear Hope family,

Thought for the Week

Jesus – the servant

John 13v5 “After that he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples feet.”

One of the critiques of the Kings of Israel in the Old Testament is they tended to look after themselves and acquire wealth rather than look after their people.

Jesus stands in total contrast to this. He taught his disciples, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever want to be first must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20v25-28

Jesus truly practised what he preached as he did the servant’s role of washing his disciples feet and ultimately lay down his life for us. Jesus wants to serve you. He is happy to get rid of all your dirt and shame. Will you let him?

With love and blessing,

Roland
