Dear Hope family,
Thought for the Week
Thinking Clearly
1 Peter 5v8 “Stay alert! Watch out.”
What do you spend your time thinking about? What is high on the agenda of your mind?
Some of us have been looking at the letter of 1 Peter lately. Three times in the letter Peter calls for “alertness and clarity of mind” depending on your translation. Peter is wanting us to think about our current circumstances in the light of the eternal purposes of God. I wear glasses or I would not see the long distance clearly. Maybe we need some spiritual spectacles?
In particular he draws our attention to three things: the incredible grace of God shown in Jesus by whom we have salvation both now and going forward (1v3-13); it is not far away until the end of the world and the start of the new (4v7); and the devil is looking to spoil it for you by tempting you to fall away, but that God will bring us through (5v8-10).
As we keep in mind this perspective, it will help us pray, help us love and help us serve faithfully.
With love and blessing,
Roland
