February 15th – Settling Half Way
We have started looking at the life of Abraham on Sunday mornings. Last week we looked at the “Call of the Lord” (Genesis 11v27-12v20). God called Abraham to “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.” We read, “They set out from Ur to go to Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.”
Under the New Covenant in Jesus, we are also called on a journey, a journey of faith. It is a character journey, where we are being renewed in our attitudes and thinking to become more like Christ. It is sometimes a painful journey, sometimes a joyful journey. Our problem is that, like Abraham, we can journey so far and then become settled. God is calling us each to keep going: he has not finished with us yet!
This change occurs as we allow the Spirit to use God’s Word to prompt and encourage us in our transformation, and as we actively seek to implement what He says in our daily lives. It often takes faith to implement, because God’s ways are not our ways. Will we trust him to bring about what is best in his way or will we trust the way of the world?
