Dear Hope family,
Thought for the Week
Follow
“’Come follow me,’ Jesus said” Matthew 4v19
Jesus said “Follow” to those he was inviting to be his disciples. The original Greek word has the root idea of “get in behind.”
The call to follow was rooted in who Jesus was and how you respond to him – Do you think he is worth following?
This was not a casual call, but a call to lifetime commitment. Jesus later said in Matthew 16v24, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” Jesus is saying that the secret to real life in all its fulness is to put following him above everything else in life. That is a tough call, but a very worthwhile call.
And so, in Matthew 4 we read, “At once they left their nets and followed him.”
I pray that you will be willing to commit to follow Jesus with all that it may mean for your life.
With love and blessing,
Roland
